An AI bot answering people in your customer community (a support bot in your product's Discord server, an AI assistant in a customer Slack workspace, an auto-answering bot on your forum) is an AI system interacting directly with natural persons. The channel being a third-party platform changes nothing: Article 50(1) applies wherever your branded AI talks to people, and community members must be told they're dealing with AI at or before the bot's first interaction with them.
The provider analysis runs as usual: if the bot operates under your name (your community, your bot name, your configuration on top of some vendor's or model provider's machinery), the disclosure duty is generally yours, not the platform's and not the model vendor's.
Community settings have a specific trap: ambient familiarity. Regulars know BotName is a bot; the person who joined today doesn't, and the duty runs to each person, at their first interaction. Don't rely on tribal knowledge. The good news is that these platforms make robust disclosure easy: a bot profile clearly labelled "AI assistant" (Discord's APP/bot tags help, but a "bot" tag alone doesn't say AI, so put it in the name or bio), an AI notice in the bot's reply pattern or thread-opener, and a pinned notice in channels where the bot is active. Layer two of those and the "informed at first interaction" test is comfortably met.
Where this shades into the genuinely unsettled: a bot in your internal company Slack, for employees only. Whether Article 50(1) reaches purely internal audiences is an open question (see the internal-chatbots page), but a customer community is not internal, even if it lives in the same app your team chats in.
Evidence habit, as ever: a dated screenshot of the bot's labelled profile and disclosure message. Thirty seconds, and the question "can you show the disclosure existed in August 2026?" has an answer.
